“Patent Denied” humbucker pickup

$175.00

My custom “Patent Denied” humbucker pickups are made to old world, high quality standards with the finest materials available.  Each pickup is made by hand, to order, especially for you.  Order fulfillment time is about 2 weeks.  (WARNING-unpotted pickups are slightly microphonic on purpose.  Not for super high gain applications!) These pickups feature rough-cast alnicoV bar magnets, under black butyrate plastic bobbins, wound with 42 AWG plain enamel coated magnet wire, all tucked neatly under an unplated, raw nickel cover. The unplated nickel cover is very sonically transparent, which results in a much more open sound than traditional covered pickups.  Hookup wire is the traditional, vintage style braided 2 conductor wire.

Each pickup is carefully made, with the finest materials available, and to the highest standards possible.  These are not made by trained lackeys or machines, they are each wound by hand, on a direct drive pickup winding device that I made after studying the early pickup winding devices of the electric guitar pioneers of the 1950’s. The wire is guided by hand, producing a scatter wound pattern in the coil that cannot be replicated by any machine. The finest USA made alnico bar magnets are sourced for production, as well as the best quality USA made enamel coated magnet wire. The alnico bars are charged magnetically by hand using a magnet charging device of my own construction. No corners are cut to keep costs down, the aim is to make the highest quality, hand made, best sounding boutique pickups available.

Reviews from owners…

“Your Patent Denied humbuckers have been in an SG for a couple of weeks now and I’m really liking them. I’m a bit of an anomaly in that I’m mostly a Gibson guy but I’m not too fond of humbuckers as I think they only really sound good or come to life when put through an overdriven amp. These however maintain the characteristic Daw clarity and “airiness” when played through a clean amp but turn up the gain and they sound firm and punchy, never overly compressed but with a pleasant harmonic complexity that never descends into sonic mush. In short, great all-rounders that are perfectly voiced for the guitar and exactly what I’d hoped for. ” -Nathan in Yokohama Japan

“The Patent Denied is sounding amazing! Puts my other guitars to shame, and they are not cheap guitars. I will be ordering more when I get the coin.” -Jerry in New Mexico

“You’ve hit it out of the park with these pickups, Eric. The tone I’ve been trying to get from my Flying Vee is finally realized. I can’t thank you enough- even my band members noticed a difference and asked what had changed. Whatever magic you put into these, please keep it up! Thanks!” – Alex in Connecticut
